PORTFOLIO > SCULPTURE

The carving of cuttlefish bones that wash up on the shore in the winter months has been an ongoing project for Hylands. The execution of the carving is carried out using only a shell that is found nearby and the end product is photographed then left in the vicinity as an anonymous ‘gift’ for a stranger to discover.

Hylands has been carving 'Beach Heads' regularly since 2001 and has left them on many beaches along the Australian coastline including Queensland, Northern Territory, NSW and Western Australia.

All pieces are between 6 - 20 x 6 - 12 cm in size.
