PUBLIC AND COMMUNITY ART
LAID is the result of a weekend of community art workshops for the ocean themed project 'Cavern of Wonder' which was instigated by Creative Regions Inc and exhibited at the Sugarland Tavern Bundaberg as part of the 2019 Crush Festival.
Hylands facilitated these weekend workshops teaching paper lantern making techniques engaging local community groups of both adults and children to construct and paper this giant turtle.
LAID consisted of the giant turtle (approx 2m in length) which was sitting up on 'sand dunes' laying eggs. Video imagery of waves gently crashing on the shoreline was projected onto the turtle's torso and the 'eggs' were lit from below in their nest revealing shadows of baby turtles within the eggs. Tumbleweed scattered around the 'dunes' completed the scene.
